About The Album
Following on the heels of 2005's Santastic: Holiday Boots For Your Stockings comes the new album Santastic II: Clausome. This collection of Holiday mash-ups and bootleg remixes offers a new and unusual spin on the classics you know and love. It's funky. It's postmodern. It's the intarwebs. It's Santastic!

The mixers and mashers hail from the US, England, France, The Netherlands and Sweden, offering exclusive tracks for this collection in a spirit of brotherly love and global groovyness. Word.

It's been an honor to compile this work from some of my favorite producers. Now, through a powerful series of tubes, we offer you the gift of these spicy, spiked mixes. Stir 'em up, spark up the tree and/or menorah and get twistin'!

Carpenter's Christmas (Karen Meets Roots Radics Uptown)
- Go Home Productions (UK)

Sleigh Ride- The Carpenters
Roots Radics- Gambling
Imagine yourself in an ice skating rink.
Preferably in New York.
Most definitely in the 1970's.
Got the vibe?
Good.
So you are skating around with your teenage sweetheart, who stumbles to the floor, dragging you down, as the Capenters 'Sleigh Ride' booms out through the PA. You smack your head on the ice and are immediately transported into a reaggae/lovers/dub pop-fest sprinkled with enough seasonal ear candy to suit any Winters playlist.
Add a couple more spoonfuls of Carpenters sugariness halfway through, mash and bring to the boil.

Lonely Siberian Winter - DJ John (USA)
Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Wizards in Winter
Beatles - Eleanor Rigby (DIY Acapella)
Michael Jackson - Beat It (Loop)
Beastie Boys - High Plains Drifter (Loop)
Black Eyed Peas - Pump It (Acapella)
Robert Shaw Chorale - Carol of the Bells

Yello - Oh Yeah
It's a classic Beatles tune treated with symphonic rock provided by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizards In Winter," peppered with the Black Eyed Peas, a dash of sugar plum fairies and others.
Inspiration behind this mashup came from the popular video that circulated the internet in December 2005 of the Christmas light display synchronized to music by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra "Wizards in Winter."
The story behind the popular video can be found here.

Donde Esta Santa Claus - Lenlow (USA)
Donde Esta Santa Claus - Augie Rio
Jacques Your Body - Les Rhythmes Digitales
Give It Up - Public Enemy
I heard Augie Rios's "Donde Esta Santa Claus" on the radio a couple years ago and it remains one of the very few poppy Christmas songs I like. Recently I had been playing around with Public Enemy's "Give It Up" and "Jacques Your Body" by Les Rhythmes Digitales, because they're two funky riffs which I realized go together swimmingly. So I was happy to discover that the Augie Rios vocals fit nicely on top, with no pitch-shifting needed.

Let Me Clear My Throat At Christmas - Cheekyboy (UK)
Let Me Clear My Throat - DJ Kool
Sleigh Ride - Hilary Duff
After a few sleepless nights wondering what to do for the album this year I discovered a great cover of 'sleigh ride' by none other than Hilary Duff! It was so mind blowingly festive knew I had to use it. I started cutting up the song and thinking of the perfect track to boot it with. Of course! DJ Kool's immortal hip hop classic came to mind. A few hours of mixing later and I had a rough demo of it. After a bit of tweakage and a sprinkling of winter magic from santa's sack this tune emerged. Hope you like it!

Pere Noel Blues - ComaR (France)
Idlewild Blues - Outkast
La fille du Pere Noel (Jacques Dutron Cover) - Bikini Machine
I always thought that this Jacques Dutron's track would be great on some electro track, so when Bob asked me to be part of the Christmas album project, I wanted to do something with it. I have to specify for those who don't understand french that the lyrics are about Santa Claus' daughter. Dj Moule kindly asked his friends from Bikini Machine (you have to hear what they do, they're great) for the acapella of the cover version they'd done. Of course, an electro track wasn't Chrismassy enough for a Chrismas album so I had to find something else. I was working with Outkast's acapella that day and I noticed how similar the voices were and... here it is.
I hope you enjoy it, Joyeux Noel mes amis !!

The Rockin' Manger Twist - Voicedude (USA)
Away In A Manger - Elvis Presley
The Twist - Chubby Checker
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brian Setzer
It started with the Elvis 'pella. I checked my database of stats (Key, BPM, etc.) and found that The Twist seemed to be compatible. I added the Brian Setzer track because there wasn't that much to the Elvis 'pella - especially when sped up.
I love the visual when you picture The King, Mr. Twister, and that Stray Cat working together....

Dreidl-Bells - DJ Flack (USA)
Jingle Bells - unknown steel drum band
The Dreidl Song - The Kol Tikvah 6th Grade Choir, Woodland Hills, CA
I started with a great steel drum version of Jingle bells then I added some extra beats and bass using Reason and I put them together using Live. I decided I should represent a bit for my Jewish family, so I played the Dreidl melody on a keyboard and added that to the mix, which fit surprisingly well. Then I found a sample of kids singing the song and was psyched that I didn't even need to change their pitch or anything. Basically I just tried to make something that was groovy and fun and short, because even on the steel drum jingle bells gets old right quick.
Peace on earth ya'll.

Give Da Jew Girl Toys - A plus D (USA)
Give The Jew Girl Toys - Sarah Silverman
Da Da Da - Trio
When San Francisco performance artist Foxy Cotton told us he wanted to perform Sarah Silverman's irreverent "Give The Jew Girl Toys" for the Christmas midnight mashup show at club Bootie, we had no idea what we were going to do to mash it up. But then Sarah Silverman gave us an idea. "Da Da Da" by Trio ... "Is that German?" Yup ... just like Santa Claus. Speaking of, that's Adrian doing the "ho ho ho's" at the end!

Chanukah Song (Goyimix) - dj BC (USA)
The Chanukah Song - Adam Sandler
Jump - Van Halen
Samples from Spartacus, The Godfather, Star Trek and Happy Days
Representing the Children of Israel with this crunchy, clubby remix of Sandler's Chanukah Song, now a holiday classic. My approach on this track was inspired by ATOM's work. Chunks were sampled, bits were also programmed in Reason and components retweaked in Acid using long filtery goodness and trailing delays. Movies and TV samples from the stars mentioned in the song, and a touch of Van Halen, top things off. Happy Chanukah!

Rudolph The Paranoid Reindeer - ToToM (France)
Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer - Dean Martin
Paranoid- Black Sabbath
Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer - The Crystals
With my mashup, I've been trying to bring hard rock into Christmas (2 concepts that are quite opposite). I had few options in front of me: a Christmassy Stooges remix or mixing a well-known christmas song with some hard rock band from the seventies (my choice quickly narrowed to Deep Purple & Black Sabbath). You almost got Highway Star by Deep Purple but Paranoid by Black Sabbath was in the right tone to mix with Rudolph. thanks to P2P, the stereo mix of Dean Martin's version of Rudolph and a bit of christmas audio-edition magic, I could get a pretty clean acapella of it. Add to these ingredients a pinch of sleigh bells and some well-placed glockenspiel, then you get my mix.

I Want A New Limb for Christmas - Pilchard (UK)
I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake
Tipper - On A Limb
beats by Pilchard
We found the Greg Lake tune, ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’, on a compilation last year and messed around with it, but it just didn’t come together. Like many unfinished projects before it, we ended up abandoning it to work on something else.
So this Christmas we were looking for different ideas, not wanting to rely on any of the old favourites, like Slade or Wizzard or Paul McCartney. That’s when we came across the unfinished Greg Lake boot. Mixing it with Tipper ‘On A Limb’ and a few of our own Pilchard beats seemed to work this time, and hopefully we’ve finally done the track some justice.
In a nutshell, as with all the tunes Pilchard mash-up, ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’ was asking for it!

Red-Nosed 5 - Solcofn (USA)
Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer - The Temptations
Sneaker Pimps - Low 5
When I do a Christmas bootleg I don't like to look at it the same way most folks do. I look for the quirks and dysfunction surrounding Christmas. I loved the acapella by the Temptations because it was festive but the Sneaker Pimps song was big, sweeping and melancholy and to me it was a match made in heaven. I always feel a little weird around Christmas and so I try to let that feeling come through in my holiday bootlegs. Cheers!

Wonderful Christmastime (Rhythm Scholar Kringle Kut Remix)
- Paul McCartney vs Rhythm Scholar (USA)

Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney
Beats, Scratching and Effects - Rhythm Scholar
Samples from:
'Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town' (1970)
'Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer' (1964)
As far as Christmas pop songs go, this one is my favorite. Since 1979 I have enjoyed hearing it as Christmastime drew near. Along with the various TV specials this was always something to look forward to during the holidays. But... what if I smashed the song and the specials together along with some phat beats and scratching? Hmmmmm... I present to you the result of such an endeavor! Turn up the bass and enjoy! Have fun bobbing your head to the Burgermeister! :)

Last Christmas The Winter Took The Street
- Martinn (The Netherlands)

Last Christmas (instrumental and original) - Wham
Dancing In The Street (acapella) - Martha & The Vandellas
The Winner Takes It All - ABBA (American for: "the winter takes it all" :-))
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
When tune in your radio at Christmas holidays it is hard to escape from hearing Wham's "Last Christmas" at least 15 times a day, so I thought it would be nice making it slightly different by mixing it with non-Xmas songs and give it/still keep that Xmas/wintery feeling. "Dancing in the street" is a sunshiny summer Motown tune, but can be applied to the winter season as well. The guitars from Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" gives it a nice break. Furthermore I chose "The winner takes it all" by ABBA, as the structure is quite compatible with "Last Christmas" and it has nice choir elements which give it an extra Xmas touch. There's some phonetical geek as well as "winner" could be heard as "winter". Note "Bohemian Rhapsody" returns as a piano backing in the ABBA verse.

Stop I've Had Enough Christmas Music - DJ Freddy King Of Pants (USA)
Don't Stop Til you get Enough - Michael Jackson
Socko The Smallest Snowball - Spike Jones & His City Slickers with The Bell Sisters
Dominic The Christmas Donkey - Lou Monte

White Christmas(Electro Remix) - Miss Frenchie (UK)
White Christmas (acapella) - Rockapella
Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol as read by Patrick Stewart
I wanted to remix a Xmas classic with a twist. Probably not as innovative or imaginative as some! The acapella is Rockapella's version of "White Christmas". I added some spoken words by Patrick Stewart taken from Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" - His voice was nicely haunting and it's one of my favourite Xmas stories. Beats and pieces were chopped, mixed or played with my Micro Korg. The end result is a fun atmospheric Xmas tune.
Hope people enjoy it. Merry Xmas !

Imagine Santa - dj BC (USA)
Imagine - John Lennon
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - The Jackson 5
The Beatles Fan Club Christmas message, 1963
additional drums and sleighbells
Imagine (pun intended) little Michael, circa 1971, sitting at the piano with John Lennon. They are hoping against hope that Santa will go straight to the ghetto. Little MJ's voice is drenched in pain and longing, while John gently urges him to believe. Santa's on his way.

Frosty John - Secret Santa (North Pole)
Sloop John B - The Beach Boys (acapella)
Frosty The Snowman - The Ronnettes (produced by the mighty Phil Spector)
Drums by Peshay, Dillinja, Adam F and others
Production by Santa's Little Helper.
Santa's only comment was: Ho Ho Ho.
